Since Sunday I have been thinking about people with depression. CBS Sunday Morning interviewed PA State Senator John Fetterman and during his interview I saw many things.

This rising star (like so many others) seemingly has it all. A terrific family, a great career trajectory and the one thing people crave until they get it…fame.

While I was never officially diagnosed with depression I know that I definitely was when I was much younger due to the dark places I was in. It was not a good time in my life but I would not change most of what I experienced as it made me the person I am today. Sadly, others don’t make it through the experience and are no longer with us.

They say that people hide their depression and this not necessarily the case. In almost all cases it is detectable but people need to look for the signs as they are definitely there for all to see. The trouble is that people either don’t want to see it in their friend/loved one or they, like most people, don’t pay attention to things going on around them by noticing the small details in life.

I do wish John well and he has an open invite to talk with me should he ever be in my hometown of Philly anytime. Sometimes talking with a stranger who cares can do wonders in a persons life.
