It’s 6:00 a.m. on January 1st, and the year has already delivered one of my favorite things: snow. ❄️ Even better, the dogs let me sleep in. Normally they operate on a 4:00 a.m. “you’re awake now” schedule, so this felt like a New Year’s miracle. I assume negotiations are ongoing.

Every New Year’s Day I keep a sacred tradition: watching a movie that would absolutely be classified as a chick flick. This year’s winner was You’ve Got Mail. A timeless rom-com that gently reminds us of two universal truths: people hate change, and email used to feel romantic instead of terrifying.

The movie follows two people buried in their business-first lives who are clearly missing something. Change shows up anyway, sometimes invited, sometimes kicking down the door. Careers shift, priorities wobble, and suddenly life looks different than planned. Funny how that works. It’s just a movie, but also… not really.

Real life does the same thing, just without the soundtrack. And since it’s a brand-new year, it’s as good a time as any to adjust the balance, try something new, or admit you’ve been ignoring the “something’s missing” feeling.

So here’s to snow, extra sleep, rom-com wisdom, and making a few intentional changes before life does it for us. Cheers to 2026.
