Be honest
March 17, 2023
I have worn many hats over the course of my life, both personal and business.
In this business series I thought I would discuss my observations which I hope will be helpful to employees, managers and business owners.
A little background on my business experience is that I am currently a business owner, I was a managing art director of a major nationwide manufacturer and I am a line employee in both retail and manufacturing. The last two are by choice to keep me grounded and see things from a lower level employees experiences. This is part of my continuing education and something you cannot learn in a classroom.
Just like in politics (dems vs republicans), there is a disconnect between employees and employers which has been existent for over centuries. Will this series fix that? Not likely, but why not give it a shot.
Owners and management have one focus and that is of the business. The what, where, when, how to remain relevant to clients is a daunting task. It requires many hours and multiple tasks in many directions. They have a responsibility to keep the business running for themselves, shareholders, employees and more. Managers, depending on their level in the organization, have differing focuses and responsibilities.
Line employees typically have one function that they each focus on. They are only responsible for themselves and their completion of this function.
To add a third and fourth, rarely discussed, avenue to this will be how each business itself is like a line employee and a group of businesses who are competitors are like management. What are the responsibilities they each have in the community, nation and world.
This series will address the functionality of this scenario piece by piece and show where the disconnects take place and how to improve on them.
I hope you enjoy the series and come to a better understanding of how we are all connected and affected within the bounds of this topic.
