Everyone completed another successful Bike-A-Thon this year. (We do pray for the one rider who I know collapsed along the last half of the route and hope he is ok.)

This event raises money for the American Cancer Society and is one of the longest rides our team, the Perkiomen Pedallers, participates in. Team members do participate in other rides during the year and some have even started participating in running marathons.

Our team has participated in this ride for several years with ranges from 20 miles to 100 miles. The distance does not matter as much as the cause and every rider should be proud for doing any distance along the route. I guarantee that the beneficiaries of this, the cancer patients themselves, love that you participate in this event regardless of the miles you complete.

Rides like this are incredible. Not only for the cause and raising money and awareness of a subject which is close to your heart, but to meet others who share the same belief in the benefit. You get to meet a great set of people who either ride or volunteer for these events and who knows, you could make new friends.

I encourage all to participate in events like this. It is great exercise, great causes and shows how much people really do care about others.

One more note to my new friend Ray. To borrow a quote from the movie Polar Express,

The thing about trains… it doesn’t matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.

In this case, it doesn’t matter the distance, what matters is to show up and ride.
